Physical Conditions and Exercise (Disabilities)

As when dealing with children, older adults and pregnancy, exercise prescription for those with a physical condition, has its own unique parameters. The aim of this course is to provide overview of the consideration and principles involved.

The aim of the program is to provide participants with an understanding of:

  • Various types of disabilities
  • The limitations and capabilities of disabled clients 
  • Appropriate exercise strategies for clients with disabilities

The program includes information on:

  • The characteristics of physical disabilities including wheelchair clients, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, Downs Syndrome, visual impairment and total hip replacement
  • Exercise considerations for physically disabled clients

The program is for gym instructors and personal trainers who have an interest in learning more about disabilities and exercise. Participants should note that higher level qualifications are required to be able to work with disabled clients (eg. Diploma of Fitness and /or Degree qualifications). It is also recommended that exercise rehabilitation services be provided as part of a health management team including appropriately qualified health specialists.

Course delivery

This course can be completed online. You can enrol anytime and can expect to start within 24 business hours. You have up to three months to complete each module or short course (most people finish much sooner). All resources including narrated PowerPoints, video clips, notes, activities, assessments and student support are included in the cost of the course.

Correspondence courses are ideal for the student that wants flexibility. We send you out manuals and DVDs and you can work at your own pace, wherever is convenient for you.
