This course trains the fitness professional in their role of the rehabilitation process and how this integrates with other health professionals. Course Content includes:
Principles of Rehabilitation
- The role of fitness professionals and other paramedical professionals in rehabilitating clients
- Types and classifications of injuries
- Goals of rehabilitation
- Assessment of injuries and conditions
- Communication and motivation skills for rehabilitating clients
- Record keeping and legal issues
Functional Anatomy
Function of musculoskeletal system in relation to exercise; mechanics of static and dynamic posture; properties of bone and cartilage; functional anatomy of joints: knee complex, hip complex, shoulder complex, ankle and foot complex, hand and wrist complex, the vertebral column.
Physiology of Orthopaedic Rehabilitation
- Pathophysiology of various conditions and injuries
- Mechanisms of injury and repair in skeletal muscle
- Physiological bases of exercise for rehabilitation
Biomechanics
- How biomechanics may lead to orthopaedic injury and pain
- Postural analysis techniques
Exercise for Orthopaedic Rehabilitation
- Stages or healing and rehabilitation
- General principles of exercise for rehabilitation
- Responses to exercise
- Progressive exercise prescription for rehabilitation of specific orthopaedic injuries
- Methods and modalities of exercise including resistance training exercises for rehabilitation
Cardiac Rehabilitation
- Cardiac pathophysiology
- Myocardial, pericardial, ischaemic and valvular disease
